AIR Available

On Amazon Now.

A collection of short stories revealing the possibilities of things, seen and unseen, that are found permeating the air. From the spider suspended on its slender web in “A BLACK EYE”, to the satellite signals being broadcast in “OTIS AND VIVIAN”. From the piece of litter being blown across the landscape in 1-800-WISH, to the sweet aromas of perfume wafting in the small business known as THE PERFUMERY. And then there are the homophones used in SOMETHING IN THE HEIR, about a fifteen-year-old reminiscing at his grandfather’s funeral, and SOMETHING IN THE ERR, about a couple doing their taxes in 1952. Or the cliché used in I’M A KNOEBODEE (and I approve this message). Stories that will make you laugh, make you cry, make you angry, and make you afraid. But most of all, they hopefully will entertain you.

THE INTERSECTION AT FALCON AND SKINNER

Our automobiles are like cocoons, wrapping us in a metal and glass sense of security where our lives are protected and separated from those in the other automobiles around us, our thoughts private. But on July 11, 2013, at 3:47 in the afternoon, an event happens that will forever link the occupants sitting in those artificial shells. These are the stories of those people and what brought them, on that day, at that time, to the intersection at Falcon and Skinner.

THE ACTOR

When another “staged” murder occurs on Burlington, Vermont, police detectives Gavin Bolte and Harry Parnin are once again faced with an investigation that has nowhere to go. Much like the first murder six months earlier, this second killing has no clues left behind and no sensible motive. The only connection is the manufactured crime scene. That is until Bolte’s daughter, Darcy, leaves behind a CD, released by the syndicated radio station RUBZ. But by then, Bolte and Parnin only have hours left to find the killer…or else.

About the author

Michael Scherer

When I was told I needed to write a short bio for this web site, I cringed. Besides hating the thought of blowing my own horn, I’m also a bit of an introvert and I like my privacy. But since I’m forced to toot I might as well toot to a song I like. So here goes.
(Sung to the tune of Neil Diamond’s, Sweet Caroline.)

Where it began, in Fort Wayne, Indiana,
When urges to write grew so strong,
Then in high school, I started dating Janet,
Who’d believe she’d come along.

Then kids, raising kids, Jen and Mark
Loving them, loving us

This was my life, the American dream
Sure felt real good. With a family at my side
There was nothing more to do. But then I …

… retired from work. Jan and I were empty
Nesters, but then Missy came here too. So I
Started to write, a novel rolled off my pencil.
Who knew it was something I could do.

Words, connecting words, in the hope
Of helping me, reaching you.

This is my life, the American dream
Still coming true. With a pen in my hand
I’ll never stop writing for you. Oh, no, no

This is my life, and with Jan here
All is good. This is my life, and I’m
Writing what I should. This is my life now with
Grandkids all in school. This is my life …

And there you have it. I’m not going to sing it that would be too embarrassing. But you go ahead if you feel so inclined. My deepest apologies to Neil Diamond. I hope he doesn’t have his attorneys on speed dial. And Mr. Diamond, if you’re reading this, I did take a few liberties with some of the syllable counts. My bad. So now if my bio intrigued you enough to want to read more of my work (Nothing you have to sing to … I promise.) then welcome to my web page.
